06 October 2010 - 06 October 2011
Only two restaurants in Asia to be awarded the prestigious highest achievement out of 75 restaurants globally
Macau, 20 September 2010 – The Lisboa Hotels is pleased to announce that two of its fine-dining restaurants – L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon in Hong Kong and Don Alfonso 1890 in Macau – have been presented the Grand Award, the highest level of achievement in the prestigious Wine Spectator’s Restaurant Wine List Awards 2010. L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon and Don Alfonso 1890 are the only recipients of the award in Asia this year, out of the seven new restaurants presented with the Grand Award globally.
The Restaurant Wine List Awards, created in 1981 by Wine Spectator, the widely respected authoritative guide on wine and food, aims to commend and honour the world’s best wine lists. The restaurants’ wine programmes are evaluated based on the selection of quality producers, harmony with the menu, overall presentation and appearance of wine list, as well as wine service. These criteria are then judged for three different levels of awards – Award of Excellence, Best of Award of Excellence and Grand Award (the highest achievement).
“We are honoured that L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon and Don Alfonso 1890 have been accredited with the highest achievement in the wine world as it reaffirms our passion and commitment to delivering the best and highest quality dining services at the Lisboa restaurants,” said Mr. Michael Au, Resident Manager of the Lisboa Hotels.
“Our wine expertise and exclusive selection of over 3,000 labels at L’Atelier and 7,000 labels at Don Alfonso have been a strong draw for many of our discerning customers. We continuously expand on our wine collection at our restaurants throughout the year and are currently looking at extending our wine cellars to accommodate an even wider choice of exclusive labels,” he added.
L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon is a two-Michelin star restaurant based in Hong Kong offering contemporary and innovative French dining and is co-managed by world-renowned chef Joël Robuchon and the Lisboa Hotels. Don Alfonso 1890, located at the Grand Lisboa Hotel in Macau, is the international outpost of the famed two-star Michelin restaurant in Southern Italy founded by the “King of Pasta”, Alfonso Iaccarino. The restaurant serves authentic Southern Italian cuisine.
The Lisboa Hotels has long been distinguished by the Wine Spectator as having one of the best and most comprehensive wine offerings in the region. It currently oversees 15 exquisite dining establishments, including Robuchon a Galera, within the Lisboa Hotels Complex in Macau. Robuchon a Galera, which shares the exclusive wine cellar with Don Alfonso 1890 at the Lisboa Hotels Complex, has also been an annual recipient of the “Grand Award” since 2005 while L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon has received the “Best of Award of Excellence” from 2006 – 2009.

About the Wine Spectator’s Restaurant Wine List Awards
Established in 1976, the Wine Spectator is a widely respected authoritative guide to wine lovers and epicureans, and is renowned for its in-depth wine tasting reports and fine-dining features. The Wine Spectator’s Restaurant Wine List Awards, created in 1981, aims to commend and honour the world’s best wine lists. The awards programme recognises restaurants whose wine lists offer interesting selections, are appropriate to their cuisine/food offerings, and appeal to a wide range of wine lovers. The restaurants’ wine lists are judged for one of the programme’s three awards – Award of Excellence, Best of Award of Excellence, and the Grand Award. Over 3,500 restaurants worldwide have been honoured by the Wine Spectator awards programme to date, of which only 75 are exclusive recipients of the Grand Award.
To provide gourmands and wine enthusiasts with the most updated information on restaurants’ wine offerings, the Awards programme requests all its winners to resubmit their wine list and dining menu on an annual basis, as well as encourage new entrants to submit their wine selections. Reviews and evaluations are then conducted with the highest standards by some of the world’s most experienced wine tasters and critics.
